Privacy Policy
Last Updated: December 30, 2024
Introduction
Welcome to My Joyfullday ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our event planning platform and services.
By accessing or using My Joyfullday, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our services.
Information We Collect
We collect information that you provide directly to us, information we obtain automatically when you use our services, and information from third-party sources that help us run and improve My Joyfullday. We only collect what we reasonably need to provide a safe and useful event planning experience.
Personal Information You Provide:
• Account Information: This includes your name, email address, phone number, password, and (if you choose to upload it) a profile picture. We use these details to create and secure your account, recognize you when you sign in, and send important communications such as verification codes, login alerts, event publication confirmations, and expiry reminders. • Event Information: When you create events, we collect details such as event names, dates, times, venues, descriptions, languages, and any custom sections you add (for example, Our Story, Wedding Party, Schedule, Travel Info, or Afterparty). We also collect guest lists and RSVP data you enter or that guests submit, as well as meal preferences and plus-one information when you enable those features. This information powers your event websites, dashboards, and public guest experiences. • Payment Information: When you purchase a subscription or use paid features, we collect billing details such as your billing address and summary payment information. Actual card or payment instrument details are processed and stored securely by our payment providers (such as Stripe or Paystack), not directly by My Joyfullday. We store tokens and limited metadata necessary to manage your subscription, reconcile payments, handle refunds where applicable, and meet accounting and tax obligations. • Communications: If you contact us through email, support forms, chat, or feedback tools, we collect the content of your messages and any information you choose to share (for example, screenshots, event IDs, or error descriptions). We use this to respond, troubleshoot issues, improve features, and train our support team. • User Content: We collect photos, videos, messages, and any other content you upload to your events or share with guests, such as gallery images, invitation designs, notes to guests, thank-you messages, and vendor reviews. This content is used to display your event websites, galleries, vendor profiles, and related features.
Information Collected Automatically:
• Device Information: We automatically receive certain technical details from your device when you use My Joyfullday, such as IP address, browser type, operating system, device model, language, and approximate screen size. We use this information to secure your account (for example, detecting suspicious logins), optimize the site for different devices, and understand which browsers and operating systems to support. • Usage Data: We track how you use My Joyfullday, including pages visited, templates previewed, buttons clicked (for example, “Publish event” or “Send invitation”), features enabled (such as RSVP settings or vendor marketplace pages), and time spent on key flows like onboarding or event editing. We use this to identify which parts of the platform are working well and which might be confusing, slow, or under-used. • Location Data: We may infer a general geographic location (for example, city or country) based on your IP address. This helps us provide relevant defaults (such as currency, timezone hints, or vendor availability by country), detect fraud, and understand how My Joyfullday is used in different regions. We do not require precise GPS location for typical use. • Cookies and Tracking: We use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences (such as language, theme, or last viewed event), measure the performance of pages and features, and support security (for example, by recognizing unusual login patterns). You can control many cookie behaviors through your browser or through settings where available.
Information from Third Parties:
• Social Media: If you choose to connect or share from social accounts (where supported), we may receive limited profile information (such as your name, profile photo, or social ID) to simplify login, pre-fill your profile, or enable sharing. We only access the information you explicitly authorize through the social provider’s interface. • Vendors: When you interact with vendors in the marketplace – for example, by sending inquiries, requesting quotes, or booking services – we may receive and store information about those interactions, including vendor responses, availability, pricing information, and booking details. This data helps you manage your vendor relationships and allows vendors to track their inquiries and bookings. • Analytics Providers: We work with analytics and monitoring tools that provide aggregated usage and performance data. These tools help us understand patterns such as peak traffic times, frequently used features, or typical error scenarios so we can make My Joyfullday faster, more reliable, and more intuitive without focusing on individual user behavior unless necessary for security or support.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for various purposes to provide, maintain, and improve our services, communicate with you, ensure security, and comply with legal obligations. This section explains in detail how we use your personal information and why each use is necessary for My Joyfullday to function effectively.
Service Delivery:
We use your information primarily to create and manage your account and events, enabling you to access My Joyfullday, customize your event websites, and manage your celebrations. We process RSVPs and manage guest lists by storing guest information you provide, tracking RSVP responses, managing plus-one requests, and organizing guest data in dashboards that help you see who is attending, who has responded, and who still needs to be contacted. We facilitate gift registry and contributions by processing payment information, tracking what guests have contributed, displaying contribution amounts (where you choose to make them visible), and helping you manage thank-you messages and gift acknowledgments. We send event-related notifications and reminders, such as alerts when guests RSVP, reminders about upcoming events, expiry warnings for free event websites, and confirmations when you publish or update events. We generate invitation cards and QR codes that guests can use to access your event website, ensuring that your invitations are functional and that guests can easily find and interact with your event information.
Communication:
We send service-related emails and notifications to keep you informed about important account activities, such as login alerts from new devices, password change confirmations, subscription renewals, payment receipts, and service updates that affect how My Joyfullday works. We respond to your inquiries and support requests by using the information you provide (such as screenshots, event IDs, or descriptions of issues) to troubleshoot problems, answer questions, and help you make the most of My Joyfullday's features. We provide updates about your events and guests, such as notifications when new RSVPs come in, reminders about events approaching, summaries of guest activity, and alerts about vendor responses in the marketplace. With your consent, we may send promotional content, such as newsletters about new features, tips for event planning, special offers on subscriptions, or information about vendor partnerships, though you can opt out of marketing communications at any time through your account settings or by clicking unsubscribe links in emails.
Improvement and Analytics:
We analyze usage patterns to improve our platform by understanding which features are most popular, which workflows cause confusion, where users encounter errors, and how we can make My Joyfullday faster, more intuitive, and more valuable. We develop new features and services based on user feedback, usage data, and market research, ensuring that we build tools that address real needs and enhance the event planning experience. We conduct research and analytics to understand trends in event planning, identify opportunities for innovation, measure the effectiveness of features, and make data-driven decisions about product development and business strategy. We personalize your experience by remembering your preferences (such as language, timezone, or default event settings), suggesting relevant templates based on your event types, customizing dashboard layouts, and providing tailored recommendations for features or vendors that may be useful for your specific events.
Security and Legal:
We detect, prevent, and address fraud and abuse by monitoring for suspicious activity (such as unusual login patterns, bulk account creation, or payment fraud), analyzing behavior that violates our Terms of Service, and taking action to protect the Platform and legitimate users from harm. We enforce our terms of service by investigating reports of violations, reviewing content that may violate policies, taking appropriate action against accounts that engage in prohibited conduct, and maintaining records necessary for enforcement and dispute resolution. We comply with legal obligations by responding to lawful requests from government authorities, maintaining records required by tax and accounting laws, cooperating with legal investigations when required, and ensuring that our data practices meet regulatory requirements in jurisdictions where we operate. We protect the rights and safety of our users by investigating security incidents, responding to abuse reports, preventing harassment and harmful conduct, and taking measures to ensure that My Joyfullday remains a safe and trustworthy platform for event planning.
How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes. However, to provide My Joyfullday's services effectively, we may share your information in specific, limited circumstances described below. This section explains when and why we share information and with whom.
With Your Consent:
We share your information when you explicitly authorize us to do so, such as when you connect your social media accounts (where supported), authorize integrations with third-party services, or give us permission to share specific information for a particular purpose. When you make your event public or share it with guests, you are consenting to share event information (such as event names, dates, venues, descriptions, and photos) with anyone who has access to the event URL or invitation link. This means that if you create a public event website and share the link, that information becomes accessible to anyone who visits the link, and you should only share public events with people you trust or intend to invite.
Service Providers:
We work with trusted third-party service providers who help us operate My Joyfullday, process payments, send communications, analyze usage, and provide customer support. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information and use it only for the specific purposes we authorize. Cloud hosting and infrastructure providers (such as Supabase, AWS, or similar services) store and process your data to host our Platform, databases, and file storage systems. Payment processors (such as Stripe, Paystack, or other payment gateways) handle subscription payments, gift contributions, and other financial transactions, processing card information securely without storing full card details on our servers. Email and communication services help us send transactional emails, notifications, and marketing messages (with your consent), ensuring that important communications reach you reliably. Analytics and monitoring tools help us understand how My Joyfullday is used, identify performance issues, measure feature adoption, and improve the user experience through aggregated, anonymized data. Customer support platforms enable our team to respond to your inquiries, track support tickets, and provide assistance when you need help.
Event Participants:
When you create an event and invite guests, we share relevant information with event participants to enable the event planning and communication features. Guest information (such as names, RSVP responses, meal preferences, plus-one details, and messages) is shared with event hosts so that hosts can manage their guest lists, track attendance, plan seating or catering, and communicate with attendees. Host information (such as your name, event details, and contact information you choose to share) is shared with confirmed guests so that guests know who is organizing the event, can access event websites, and can contact you if needed. Vendor information (such as vendor profiles, availability, pricing, and booking details) is shared for marketplace bookings, enabling you to evaluate vendors, send inquiries, receive quotes, and manage vendor relationships, while vendors receive information about your inquiries and bookings to respond appropriately.
Legal Requirements:
We may share your information when required by applicable laws and regulations, such as responding to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal processes that compel us to disclose information. We may share information to respond to government requests from law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, or other authorities when we believe disclosure is necessary to comply with legal obligations, protect public safety, or prevent illegal activity. We may share information to protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property, or those of our users, such as when we need to investigate potential Terms violations, prevent fraud, or defend against legal claims. We may share information to enforce our terms and policies, such as when we need to take action against accounts that violate our Terms of Service, abuse the Platform, or engage in prohibited conduct.
Business Transfers:
In the event of a merger, acquisition, sale of assets, or other business transaction involving My Joyfullday, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. For example, if My Joyfullday is acquired by another company, your account information, event data, and other information may be transferred to the acquiring company, which would then be responsible for protecting your information under its own privacy policy. In such cases, we will notify you of the transfer and any changes to how your information will be handled, and you will have the opportunity to delete your account if you do not wish to continue with the new owner.
Data Security
We implement robust security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. Security is a priority for My Joyfullday, and we use industry-standard practices and technologies to safeguard your data. However, it is important to understand that no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute protection against all threats.
Technical Safeguards:
We encrypt data in transit using TLS/SSL protocols, ensuring that information transmitted between your device and our servers is protected from interception by third parties. This means that when you log in, create events, upload photos, or submit RSVPs, the data is encrypted during transmission. We also encrypt sensitive data at rest in our databases, protecting stored information from unauthorized access even if someone gains access to our storage systems. We use secure authentication and password hashing, meaning that passwords are never stored in plain text – instead, we use cryptographic hashing algorithms that make it extremely difficult for attackers to recover your password even if they gain access to our password database. We conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments, working with security experts to identify and address potential weaknesses in our systems before they can be exploited. We employ firewalls and intrusion detection systems to monitor network traffic, block malicious activity, and alert us to potential security threats. We implement access controls and authentication protocols that ensure only authorized personnel and systems can access your data, and we log access to sensitive information for audit purposes.
Organizational Measures:
We limit access to personal data on a need-to-know basis, meaning that employees and contractors only have access to the information necessary to perform their job functions – for example, customer support staff can access account information to help with support requests, but they do not have access to payment card details, which are handled separately by payment processors. We provide employee training on data protection and privacy, ensuring that our team understands their responsibilities, recognizes security threats, and follows best practices for handling sensitive information. We have incident response and breach notification procedures in place, meaning that if we discover a security incident, we have protocols for containing the threat, investigating the scope, notifying affected users and authorities as required by law, and taking steps to prevent similar incidents in the future. We regularly review and update our security practices to adapt to evolving threats, incorporate new security technologies, and ensure that our defenses remain effective against current attack methods.
Your Role in Security:
While we work to protect your information on our end, you also play an important role in keeping your account secure. You should use strong, unique passwords for your My Joyfullday account – passwords that are long, complex, and not reused across other websites, as password reuse increases the risk that a breach of another service could compromise your My Joyfullday account. You should enable two-factor authentication when available, which adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second verification step (such as a code sent to your phone) in addition to your password when logging in. You should keep your login credentials confidential and never share your password with others, including vendors, guests, or collaborators – if you need to grant access to others, use built-in collaboration features rather than sharing passwords. You should report any suspicious activity immediately, such as logins you do not recognize, changes to your events you did not make, or unexpected emails about account actions, so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
While we strive to protect your information using industry-standard security measures, no method of transmission or storage over the internet is 100% secure. Despite our best efforts, there is always a risk that unauthorized parties could gain access to your data through sophisticated attacks, human error, or other means beyond our reasonable control. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to protecting your data to the best of our ability and continuously improving our security practices to stay ahead of emerging threats.
Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. This section explains how long we keep different types of data and why certain information may be retained even after you delete your account.
Active Accounts:
While your account is active, we retain all account information (such as your name, email, phone number, profile picture, and account settings) to provide ongoing access to My Joyfullday and manage your subscription, events, and communications. Event data (including event websites, guest lists, RSVPs, photos, and other content) is retained for the duration of the event plus a reasonable period afterward to allow you and your guests to access memories, view galleries, download photos, and maintain records of your celebration. For example, a wedding event website may remain accessible for several months after the wedding date so that guests can revisit photos, download images, and access information about the event, even if the event itself has concluded.
After Account Deletion:
When you delete your account, we begin the process of removing your personal data from our active systems. Most personal data is deleted within 30 days of account deletion, including your account profile, event websites, guest lists, uploaded content, and other information you provided. However, some information may be retained for longer periods for legal compliance, dispute resolution, or enforcement of agreements. For example, we may retain payment records, transaction history, and billing information for several years to comply with tax laws, accounting requirements, and financial regulations. We may retain security logs, access records, and other information necessary to investigate abuse, prevent fraud, or respond to legal requests. Aggregated, anonymized data that cannot be linked back to you may be retained indefinitely for analytics purposes, as this data helps us understand usage patterns, improve features, and make business decisions without compromising individual privacy.
Backup and Archives:
Backup copies of your data may persist for up to 90 days after deletion, as we maintain backups for disaster recovery and system restoration purposes. These backups are typically not accessible for normal operations and are eventually overwritten, but during the backup retention period, deleted data may still exist in backup systems. Archived data retained for legal compliance (such as records required by tax laws, accounting regulations, or court orders) may be kept for longer periods as required by applicable law – for example, payment records may need to be retained for 7 years or more depending on jurisdiction and tax requirements.
Your Control:
You can request deletion of your data at any time through your account settings or by contacting us at privacy@myjoyfullday.com. When you request deletion, we will remove your personal information from active systems within the timeframe described above, subject to legal retention requirements. However, some data may be retained if required by law (such as tax records we must keep for accounting purposes) or for legitimate business purposes (such as information needed to resolve ongoing disputes, enforce agreements, or prevent fraud). If you have questions about what data can be deleted and what must be retained, please contact us and we will explain the specific retention requirements that apply to your information.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location and applicable data protection laws, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information. This section explains the rights that may be available to you and how to exercise them. We are committed to respecting your privacy rights and will respond to your requests in accordance with applicable law.
Access and Portability:
You have the right to request a copy of your personal data that we hold, allowing you to see what information we have collected about you, how we use it, and who we share it with. You can request this information by contacting us at privacy@myjoyfullday.com, and we will provide it in a format that is easy to understand. You have the right to receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format (such as JSON or CSV), which enables you to download your event information, guest lists, RSVP data, and other content in a portable format that you can use elsewhere. You have the right to transfer your data to another service provider, meaning you can export your information from My Joyfullday and import it into another platform if you choose to switch services, though the format and compatibility will depend on what the other service supports.
Correction and Deletion:
You have the right to update or correct inaccurate personal information, such as fixing a misspelled name, updating an outdated email address, or correcting event details that were entered incorrectly. You can update most information directly through your account settings, or you can contact us if you need help making corrections. You have the right to request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements – for example, we may need to retain payment records for tax purposes even if you request deletion of other information. You have the right to object to or restrict certain processing activities, such as objecting to processing for marketing purposes or requesting that we limit how we use your data while we investigate a concern you have raised.
Consent Management:
You have the right to withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time by unsubscribing from promotional emails, adjusting your communication preferences in account settings, or contacting us directly. Withdrawing consent for marketing does not affect our ability to send essential service-related messages, such as account notifications, security alerts, or event reminders. You have the right to opt out of personalized advertising, though My Joyfullday does not currently use personalized advertising – if we introduce advertising features in the future, we will provide clear opt-out mechanisms. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings or through cookie consent tools we provide, though disabling certain cookies may affect platform functionality.
Additional Rights (EU/UK GDPR):
If you are located in the European Union or United Kingdom, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You have the right to be informed about data processing, which this Privacy Policy addresses by explaining what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights. You have the right to object to automated decision-making, though My Joyfullday does not currently use fully automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects – if we introduce such features, we will provide information about how they work and how to object. You have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (such as a data protection authority in your country) if you believe we have violated your privacy rights, and we will cooperate with any legitimate investigations.
California Residents (CCPA/CPRA):
If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). You have the right to know what personal information is collected, used, shared, or sold, which we provide through this Privacy Policy and through data access requests. You have the right to delete personal information, subject to exceptions for information we must retain for legal or business purposes. You have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information – however, My Joyfullday does not sell personal information to third parties, so this right does not currently apply, but we will honor opt-out requests if our practices change. You have the right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights, meaning we will not deny you services, charge you different prices, or provide you with a different level of service because you exercised your privacy rights.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at privacy@myjoyfullday.com with a clear description of what you are requesting. We will verify your identity before processing requests to protect your privacy, and we will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law (typically 30-45 days, depending on your jurisdiction).
Children's Privacy
My Joyfullday is not intended for children under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16 without appropriate parental consent. This section explains our policies regarding children's privacy and how we handle information related to minors.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. When users create accounts, we require them to confirm that they are at least 16 years old, and our Terms of Service specify that users must be at least 16 or have valid parental/guardian consent. If you are under 16, please do not use our services or provide any personal information, including creating an account, uploading content, or submitting RSVPs, as doing so would violate our Terms of Service and could result in your account being terminated. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 16 without proper parental consent, we will delete that information promptly and take steps to prevent further collection, such as terminating the associated account and implementing additional verification measures if necessary.
Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided us with personal information should contact us immediately at privacy@myjoyfullday.com. We will investigate the matter, verify the child's age, and if we confirm that information was collected from a child under 16 without consent, we will delete the information and take appropriate action to prevent recurrence. Parents or guardians can also request access to, correction of, or deletion of their child's information, and we will work with them to address their concerns in accordance with applicable law.
For events involving minors (such as children's birthday parties, school events, or family celebrations), the parent or guardian who creates the event is responsible for providing consent and managing information related to the minor. This means that when a parent creates an event for their child's birthday party, the parent is responsible for ensuring that they have the right to share information about the child, that guest information is collected and used appropriately, and that any photos or content featuring the child comply with privacy laws and the parent's wishes. Event hosts should be mindful of privacy considerations when creating events for minors, such as limiting public access, being selective about what information is shared, and obtaining appropriate consent from other parents before including their children's information in guest lists or photos.
International Data Transfers
My Joyfullday operates globally, and your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. This section explains how we handle international data transfers and what safeguards we use to protect your information regardless of where it is processed.
Transfer Mechanisms:
We use appropriate safeguards for international transfers to ensure that your personal information receives adequate protection even when it is processed in countries with different data protection laws than your home country. For transfers involving data from the European Union or United Kingdom, we use Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission, which are legally binding agreements that require recipients of your data to provide the same level of protection as required under EU/UK data protection law. We comply with applicable data protection frameworks, such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and other regional privacy laws, ensuring that our data transfer practices meet legal requirements regardless of where data is processed.
Data Storage:
Our primary data centers are located in secure, certified facilities that meet industry standards for physical security, environmental controls, and access management. We may use cloud service providers with global infrastructure, meaning that your data may be stored or processed in data centers located in various countries to ensure redundancy, performance, and disaster recovery capabilities. Regardless of where data is stored or processed, appropriate security measures are in place, including encryption, access controls, monitoring, and incident response procedures, ensuring that your information is protected to the same standard regardless of geographic location.
Your Consent:
By using our services, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries where we operate or where our service providers are located. This consent is necessary for My Joyfullday to function effectively, as our infrastructure and service providers may be located in different countries than you are. We ensure adequate protection regardless of where data is processed by implementing the safeguards described above, including contractual protections, technical security measures, and compliance with applicable data protection frameworks. If you have concerns about international data transfers or want more information about where your specific data is processed, please contact us at privacy@myjoyfullday.com and we will provide details about our data transfer practices and the safeguards in place.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time:
Notification of Changes:
• Material changes will be communicated via email or platform notification • We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy • Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy
Review Recommendations:
• We encourage you to review this policy periodically • Check for updates especially before providing new personal information • Contact us if you have questions about any changes

Data Protection Officer:
For users in the European Union or other jurisdictions that require a designated Data Protection Officer (DPO), you can contact our Data Protection Team at dpo@myjoyfullday.com. The DPO is responsible for overseeing our data protection practices, ensuring compliance with privacy laws, and serving as a point of contact for data protection authorities and individuals with privacy concerns. If you are located in a jurisdiction that requires a DPO and you have questions about how we handle your data under applicable data protection laws, you can reach out to this address.
Mailing Address:

If you need to send time-sensitive privacy notices or legal documents, we recommend also sending them via email to ensure prompt receipt.
Response Time:
We aim to respond to all privacy-related inquiries within 30 days, though complex requests (such as data access requests involving large amounts of information or requests that require legal review) may take longer. We will acknowledge receipt of your request promptly and keep you informed about the status of your inquiry. For urgent matters that require immediate attention – such as security incidents, suspected data breaches, or time-sensitive privacy concerns – please indicate "URGENT" in your subject line, and we will prioritize your request accordingly. However, please use the "URGENT" designation responsibly, as overuse may reduce its effectiveness.
Complaints:
If you are not satisfied with our response to your privacy inquiry or believe we have violated your privacy rights, you may have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Data protection authorities are government agencies responsible for enforcing privacy laws and investigating privacy violations. For example, if you are in the European Union, you can contact the data protection authority in your country, and if you are in California, you can file a complaint with the California Attorney General. We will cooperate with any legitimate investigations by data protection authorities and work to resolve complaints in a fair and timely manner.
For any privacy-related questions, you can contact us at privacy@myjoyfullday.com.
